Dancing Stars Quilt Along Week 2 – Cutting the Fabrics from Christa Quilts

Welcome back to the Dancing Stars quilt along! This week it’s time to cut our fabrics. If you are one of those people who loves a pretty pile of freshly cut fabric, this is your week. If you’d rather skip ahead to sewing, hang in there – a little organization now will make the star blocks much easier to sew next week!

Remember, this is a quilt along, not a race. If you don’t get everything cut this week, no worries. These posts will stay up indefinitely, so you can work at whatever pace makes you happy.

Dancing Stars Quilt Along Week 1 – Gather Your Supplies from Christa Quilts

Welcome to Dancing Stars quilt along! We will take it nice and easy this week. Jut gather up the fabrics you plan to use and do whatever prep you normally do (prewash, starch etc. if so desired.) The quilt pattern includes 3 sizes and it calls for fat quarters, but this patten works very well with scraps, or fewer colors, too.

Colorway Ideas for Dancing Stars

When choosing colors, think about complementary pairs of fabrics that will work ...

Daisy Chain QAL Week 5 – Backing & Basting from Christa Quilts

We are nearly to my favorite part of any quilt – the machine quilting! But first we need to prep our quilts by making sure the backing is big enough, and then basting. I love making pieced backs from leftovers or other coordinating fabrics because that makes the quilt twice as nice!!

Because I had too many pictures of this process to share, I thought it would be much easier to put them all together into a super short video and talk over the process. You can watch that by clicking play below:

Once the quilt is basted, you are ready ...

Daisy Chain QAL Week 4 – Sewing the Quilt Top from Christa Quilts

How are your Daisy Chain blocks coming along? If you are just starting, be sure to grab a copy of the Daisy Chain quilt pattern and join the fun. We are currently working through pages 12-13 of the pattern. But the tips I’m sharing below can apply to any quilt in your UFO pile!!

Click here to see how I made my design wall.

The first thing I like to do whenever sewing a quilt top together is to get all of my blocks up on the design wall and spread out the color. Then I’ll take time ...

Daisy Chain Quilt Along Week 3 – Sewing the Chain Blocks from Christa Quilts

Follow along in the Daisy Chain quilt pattern pages 8-11 as you work on this week’s quilty “homework.” Start by chain piecing your strips that create the small 4-patch units. I’ve given step-by-step diagrams to follow in the pattern so it shouldn’t feel so daunting. Just remember to take it one section at a time!

Aren’t these units so cute??

Keep all similar colors together so it’s easier to create each chain block or border unit. I’m pressing all of my seams open and sewing with a shorter stitch length so my small pieces ...

Daisy Chain Quilt Along Week 2 – Sewing the Daisy Blocks from Christa Quilts

Whenever I’m sewing quilt blocks that have lots of pieces, I find it much easier to sew the smaller units of each block into larger units, then chain piece everything for speed and efficiency. Follow along in the Daisy Chain quilt pattern on page 6-7s for the images and tips shown below. I’m making two of these at the same time in 2 different colorways: Autumn & Purple Vibrations.

Making Stitch-N-Flip Units

So the first thing we are doing is sewing all of the stitch-n-flip units which will make the petals of each daisy flower block. You can either ...

True Blue QAL-part 3 from Moda Lissa

We are on week 3 of the True Blue QAL with American Patchwork & Quilting. Yes I am making a red version so it seems silly every time I type the words True Blue.

Quiltalong – week 3

This block has the most pieces in it. I am a huge fan of using wooden blocks to help set the seam allowances to lay flat. This really helped on this block. I am a huge fan of Modern American Vintage’s sewing accessories. They are a treasure and future heirlooms for sure. It is usually my spurge at quilt shows to add to ...

True Blue… with a Little Red Attitude from Moda Lissa

True Red QAL

There is something comforting about a quilt-along. It feels a bit like a recipe card that’s been passed down for generations. Same method, same heart, but every time it turns out a little different depending on who’s in the kitchen or sewing room and what fabric is selected.. The True Blue QAL is exactly that kind of experience. last week it was picking fabric. This week it is making block 1.. Following directions in the magazine gives you exactly how many pieces you need to cut and sew. I never mind having some extra so ...

Meine Quilt Alongs und Challenges in 2026 from Quilt Collection M.

New Year – New Pattern – New Quilt Along for 2026! from Christa Quilts

Let’s kick off the new year right with a new pattern and Quilt Along! Check out Daisy Chain, a super fun pieced pattern shown in 2 colorways, with multiple sizes.

It’s been awhile since I’ve made a quilt completely from solids, and I chose to work with Riley Blake Confetti Cotton solids for both colorways. It really shows off the quilting and I’m thrilled with how they turned out.

I thought it would be fun to host a quilt along to make this quilt completely from start to finish. The quilt along will kick off right ...

True Blue: A Quilt-Along to start 2026

Botanical Beauty block #7 from Nestlings By Robin

Welcome back for block 7, Laurel Wreaths.

You will make 2 of these this month.

Laurel leaves were part of my WLL quilt along
back in 2020 and HERE is the blog post
about the original quilt.

Since then, I have been playing with
other layouts. This is one of the layouts
that I have put into repeat as a fabric
design too for that exciting someday...:)

The symbolic history of the laurel is one of
triumph and achievement since the
original Greek Olympics and you
can read more about that HERE if you choose.

I find it a nice ...

Bling Quilt Along Week 3: Quilt Top Assembly from Christa Quilts

How are you doing with this quilt along thus far? Just remember, you can make this quilt at your own pace, and on your own schedule! This week we are assembling our quilt top. For my Dazzle Dots version of Bling, I rotated the individual blocks so that each set of 4 formed a larger hashtag block. Then I sewed the larger block units into rows, and then joined the rows to complete the top.

Blockheads 6- block 9- Me and My Sister from Moda Lissa

Say hello to Block 9 of Moda Blockheads 6, and it’s bursting with fun, flair, and Barbara Groves’ signature charm. From one half of the hilarious and high-energy duo Me & My Sister Designs, this block is pure joy in fabric form.

Bold reds and playful pinks come together to form a sparkling starburst—Polaris, because that’s exactly what it does. This block took a bit of practice and choosing geometric fabrics was probably not the best option, but that is why this is a skill builder project.

Polaris – Playful Geometry with Heart

This block combines diamond-in-a-square piecing, and ...

Moda Blockheads 6: Block 4 – Cat’s Cradle by Kiley Ferons

It’s Blockheads Wednesday again, and we’ve got a fresh face joining the circle—say hello to Kiley Ferons, the designer behind this week’s block: Cat’s Cradle.

Now back to Blockheads…If you love blocks with movement and a modern twist, you’re in for a treat. Kiley’s Cat’s Cradle is playful and sharp all at once—a clever composition of half-square triangles and half-rectangle triangles that criss-cross like the string game we all played as kids. It’s balanced but dynamic, and every ...
